The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has launched a public awareness campaign in Kabala to promote safe driving and reduce road accidents. The campaign includes radio programs, community meetings, and school visits to educate drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Officials say speeding, drunk driving, and poor vehicle maintenance are the leading causes of accidents in the region. The campaign aims to change attitudes and encourage safer road behavior.
Local transport unions are also involved, pledging to enforce safety rules among their members. They have been urged to avoid overloading vehicles and to ensure all drivers have valid licenses.
The initiative comes ahead of the festive season when road traffic typically increases. Authorities hope that increased awareness will help save lives.
Residents have welcomed the campaign, calling for regular enforcement of traffic laws to ensure lasting improvements in road safety.
