Women Farmers Receive Seed and Tool Support

Women Farmers Receive Seed and Tool Support

In Falaba District, over 300 women farmers have received a major boost to their agricultural work through the distribution of essential farming inputs. The support package, which included rice seeds, hoes, watering cans, and fertilizers, was made possible through a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and a UK-based NGO dedicated to improving food security in rural communities.

The distribution took place across several communities, with beneficiaries drawn from Neya, Mongo, and Sulima chiefdoms. For many of these women, farming is their primary source of livelihood, and access to quality seeds and tools has often been a challenge. The new support is therefore seen as a timely intervention, especially as the planting season approaches.

Speaking during the event, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture encouraged the women to make good use of the inputs, noting that the initiative is part of a broader plan to promote sustainable farming practices and reduce hunger in the district. They stressed that empowering women in agriculture is key to improving household income and community resilience.

The women farmers, visibly delighted, expressed gratitude to both the Ministry and the NGO. Many shared that with the new seeds and tools, they plan to expand their farms, improve yields, and ensure food security for their families. Several also mentioned their intention to work in groups to share knowledge and support one another during the farming season.

To ensure long-term success, agricultural extension officers will continue to monitor the farms and provide training on modern farming methods. This ongoing support aims not only to improve productivity but also to encourage sustainable land management, helping these women secure better livelihoods for years to come.
